CB Carlos Rogers, who will be an unrestricted free agent no matter the new rules, has made it abundantly clear he wants no part of returning to the Redskins next season. In fact, he would love to face the Redskins twice a year — by signing with an NFC East team. Rogers has spoken to almost anyone who will listen recently that he believes he’s the better corner than DeAngelo Hall, hinting that he wants to move on to get paid No. 1 CB money.
Both the Cowboys and Eagles, who are likely to join the Nnamdi Asomugha sweepstakes, are likely to have Rogers as an alternative plan. The Redskins, we hear, have completely moved on and truthfully are not that broken up about it. They liked Rogers’ physicality and athleticism, but he was one of the worst playmakers in the NFL because of his awful hands. One scout who had seen Rogers for years last season estimated that the player had dropped more potential picks than he had secured. Durability is also a concern after repeated knee injuries.
The Redskins have no natural replacement on the roster other than Kevin Barnes, but they could make a play for Terence Newman if the Cowboys sign a top corner.
