Former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Drew Pearson will be the keynote speaker at the upcoming East Texas Small Business Conference. This conference will cover many aspects of marketing for small businesses – from the use of social media to email marketing and beyond. It will be an all-day event on Thursday, December 1 at the Maude Cobb Convention & Activity Complex in Longview, Texas.
Pearson was one of the NFL’s greatest wide receivers. With career records of 50 touchdowns and 489 receptions for 7,822 yards, Pearson was part of three Cowboys Super Bowl teams – including the Super Bowl champion team in 1978. He earned the nickname “Mr. Clutch” for his ability to catch balls in crucial situations. Pearson was named All-Pro three times, was named as one of the Top 20 Pro Football All-Time receivers, and was named to the NFL 1970s All-Decade Team.
After his Cowboys career, Pearson successfully transitioned to the role of a businessman. He founded Drew Pearson Marketing, Inc. and Concept One Accessories , which designs and manufactures licensed, private label, and fashion headwear. Founded in 1986, Drew Pearson Marketing, Inc. is based in Hopkins, Minnesota, and is a subsidiary of USPA Accessories, LLC.
Pearson’s keynote address, “From the Locker Room to the Board Room,” will highlight his Cowboys years and his thoughts on being a successful businessman. Following his presentation will be breakout sessions led by Ron Collier (Collier Consulting Group), Marc Willson (The Willson Group), John Grubbs (GCI), Julie Niehoff (Constant Contact), Joyce Campbell (Capital One Bank), Richard Andrews (former CEO of STEMCO), Mayor Jay Dean (Longview mayor and small business owner) and Chuck Walfrop (North Texas SBDC Center for Government Contracting).
The conference will begin at 10:30 a.m. and will last until 4:30 p.m. Registration is $25 at Kilgore College Small Business Development Center in Kilgore, Texas. Registration will also be available the morning of the event. Joe Terrell of KLTV will be the Master of Ceremonies, and lunch will be served by Johnny Cace’s Seafood and Steakhouse. After Pearson’s keynote speech, there will be a brief Q&A, a presentation of the Community Small Business of the Year Awards. Pearson will then take part in a meet and greet and book signing, which will be followed by the aforementioned breakout sessions.
If you are a small business owner, budding entrepreneur, or have ever thought of starting your own business, this event is for you. Not only will you have the opportunity to meet Pearson and other inspirational business leaders, but you will learn valuable skills and lessons about business ownership in the changing economy. See you there!
