Novacek3photo 66 150x150 Exclusive | Dallas Cowboys: Interview with Jay Novacek Part 1 of 3Let’s talk about the All-State Tailgate tour and the Cowboys Classic, which is Alabama vs. Michigan.  Can you tell me how you’re involved and give us a prediction?

I am heavily involved, they are kicking off their 62nd All State Sweepstakes with Michigan and Alabama.  I will be greeting all the fans and giving autographs and will be there for this interesting first game of the season. I think this will be a great game.  Michigan obviously has name quarterback and a tremendous amount of impact plays and Alabama has that tough defense.

Do you have a prediction for the Alabama vs. Michigan game?

I like a team that is really consistent, who has good offense, good defense, good special teams and you know for the most part I think you can rely on that one.  So, I think it’s going to be hard for Michigan to beat Alabama tomorrow.

Let’s talk a little bit about your childhood; can you share your introduction to sports in your childhood, the athletes that you looked up to and the sports that you played?

When I grew up, my dad coached football, basketball and track and field.  So I grew up with playing many sports.  I remember at a very young age that the couch was the touchdown and my older brother was trying to stop me from scoring.  My dad was very involved with us.  I remember being out on the practice fields watching him coach and watching his teams play.   When I grew up, I was more of a basketball fan than anything.

When I was really young the Minnesota Vikings were my favorite team.  The Dallas Cowboys fans don’t like hearing that.  I enjoyed Chuck Forman and Fran Tarkington.  I also loved watching Dr. J and Larry Bird.  Back then, track and field was a very big part of my life.

Speaking of track and field…I wanted to go to a school that allowed me to play multiple sports.  University of Wyoming allowed me to do that, so it was the perfect place for me.  I was able to play football as a freshman on varsity and I was able to run track and field which is what I love to do.

Can you tell me a little about your relationship with Dez Bryant of the Dallas Cowboys?

I enjoy helping people and when it comes to football.  If I happen to see something that I think could improve that individual on the field, then I tell them about it.  If they decide to accept it, then hopefully it helps them.  Dez seemed to agree with me and I helped him with a few other things.  He seems to be very receptive and to me and that’s a blessing.  He is a an unbelievably talented athlete who gives me his valuable time to talk and was very respectful, so I am in his corner.
