NFC East Scenarios
With two more weeks left in the 2012 NFL regular season, the NFC eastern division will once again come down to the wire. The Dallas Cowboys and Washington Redskins once stood at 3-5, trailing the New York Giants who were well ahead of the pack at 6-2. Six weeks later, the Redskins and Cowboys have both won five of their last six games, while the Giants have only won two of their last six, leaving all three squads with an even 8-6 record. With that being said, here’s a look at the scenarios between the three rivals and opponents they have left on the schedule.
Washington Redskins 8-6: @ Philadelphia Eagles 4-10, vs. Dallas Cowboys 8-6
N.Y. Giants 8-6: @ Baltimore Ravens 9-5, vs. Philadelphia Eagles 4-10
Dallas Cowboys 8-6: vs. New Orleans Saints 6-8, @ Washington Redskins 8-6
1. If the Redskins or Cowboys win out, they win the division. The Giants can only hope to win a wild-card spot at worst by winning out in this case.
2. If the Redskins and Cowboys both win in Week 16, their Week 17 rematch will decide the NFC East champion. No matter what the Giants do next week.
3. The Giants won’t win any tiebreaker for the division. But if the Redskins and Cowboys both lose in Week 16 and the Giants win out, then the Giants would win the division.
4. The Giants can also win the division if either one of the other two lose. Say if Dallas wins and Washington loses or if Washington wins and Dallas loses in Week 16 and the Giants beat Baltimore to improve to 9-6. Dallas or Washington could play spoiler in the final game to even out at 9-7. And if the Giants win the final game at home against the Eagles, then they’d win the division at 10-6.
There’s so much to think about with a bunch of wild scenarios. That’s what makes this race extremely interesting. So getcha popcorn ready, cause it’s going to be a show.
