Travis Frederick 150x150 Dallas Cowboys | My Thoughts on Game 1: Dallas versus MiamiHere are my GAME 1 Thoughts: Dallas versus Miami!  Well….some definite positives right? Travis Frederick looked very good til they moved him to guard. Hard to believe that was his first ever NFL game.
Our running backs all ran like they were doused in acid. Lance Dunbar looked like a constant chain mover when he was in there and Tanner ran with a renewed sense of purpose. Joseph Randle looked like we expected him to when we drafted him.

George Selvie was a man possessed. I’ve never seen a DE make so many plays in one game. He was on or near the ball on practically every snap.

Our defense was running to the ball like flies to a fresh turd. I think we will get lots of turnovers this year. DeVonte Holloman looked really good even before he had the pick 6. I kept asking who #57 was.

Defense really tightened on short yardage situations and made some nice stops to keep the Fins from scoring.

Alex Tanney made some nice throws when he had time, which was rarely.

now the bad…..

still TOO MANY PENALTIES (though far fewer pre-snap penalties) Our defensive ends need to wear shock collars until they can quit leaving early.

Our run defense was horrid up the middle. Although I know things would have been different if Jason Hatcher, Sean Lee, Bruce Carter, Justin Durant, Barry Church, Will Allen and co had been playing.

Safety play was not very good across the board. Matt Johnson was having the best game among safeties (which ain’t saying much) and then he remembered how dainty he is and got hurt.

Backup QB’s missed some plays. Kyle Orton looked fine but the other 2 missed some throws. The one where Beasley got wide open for a TD and Tanney under threw him was a bummer.

JJ Wilcox looked completely lost.

all in all, it was one of the more entertaining preseason games I can remember and there is lots of reason for optimism today. Our 2nd and 3rd team defenses completely shut down their FIRST team offense and it looks like Callahan is committed to the running game and we have the backs to do it. We saw strong play from David Arkin, Ronald Leary, and Travis Frederick. Holloman looks like someone who will have a hard time sitting on the bench, and Selvie was a real find. Can’t wait for Friday!
