The Dallas Cowboys have notified and have released their all-time sack leader and 7 time Pro Bowler DeMarcus Ware, according to the NFL Network.
This is a huge turn of events as NFL free agency prepares to open at 3 p.m. CST on Tuesday. There was little choice for Jerry Jones and the Cowboys to release him, as Ware reportedly refused to take a pay cut.
The Cowboys will gain 7.4 million in cap space with this move, but will have more than $8 million in dead money as a result. The Cowboys, who had the 4th all time worst NFL defense in 2013. Now will play without their best player in the upcoming season. Ware will not have an issue finding new work. He can now sign with a contender and continue getting QB sacks.
